The idea of twisting a fairy tale really captured my attention, especially after I read the complete set of Grimm's fairytales. Until then I had no idea how much fairy tales have been Disneyfied to give them happy endings. For example, Grimm's version of 'The Frog Prince' has the princess throwing the frog across the room where he hits a wall before turning into a prince, not kissing him. And in the Grimm's version of Cinderella, the evil stepsisters get their just desserts at the wedding, where crows peck their eyes out.

This could also explain why I liked the movie 'The Brothers Grimm'. Even though it does have a happier ending, there were definitely much darker elements throughout the movie than most people would expect of things associated with fairy tales.

Red sounds fantastic and I can't wait to read it.

These books sound great!
