SEE? THIS is what happens when publishers disguise the covers. The SFR fans have No Idea! It's not just me, it's an epidemic. It's the whole reason the discussion came about between Heather and I in the first place, and how I ended up passing along the link. I was googling SFR and accidentally found Sherrilyns blog, never realizing SFR had had this milestone!! Someday wouldn't it be cool if publishers were disguising vampire covers to look like SFR stories? :) PS--I have heard my Sureblood cover is now being redesigned "a little bit"...so a glimmer of hope.

Hi Heather - I had no idea that Kenyon's latest, BORN OF FIRE, is a SFR novel?! Maybe I'll have to pick it up. I enjoyed all her Dark-Hunter creations, but it'd be interesting to see her try something new.

Thanks for the shout out about our Steampunk book club pick. From everything I've heard, Soulless is a fantastic read. I plan to review several other steampunk books during January, including Boneshaker and Leviathan, and whatever else I can get my hands on. It should be fun.

BTW, I happen to be halfway through book two in Justina Robson's Quantum Gravity series, and I'm curious if you've tried them? They're an eclectic mix of sci-fi and fantasy, with an intriguing relationship between Lila, a half android woman and Zal, an elf. It's fairly far out there, but I'm enjoying them.

Dear Heather,

many thanks for highlighting my work! To whet appetites, here's an excerpt about the backstory of my fictional universe:

"I spun six novels in an alternative universe where the Minoans survive the explosion of the Thera volcano. The saga starts in the Bronze Age and extends into the far future.

Several friends saw parts of the saga as it unfolded. It inspired two of them to create the beautiful artworks that grace my web site’s cover, blog logo and gallery. However, none of it had officially seen the light of day till this August and I had serious doubts about its publication potential. This was in part because it doesn’t fit into any category and ignores several recipes… er, rules.

In it, legends, songs, vision quests and geasa intertwine with genetic engineering, wormhole travel, planetary settlement and sapient aliens. Some portions have multiple narrators, the cultures are not Anglosaxon and an invented language whispers through it: my version of the lost Minoan tongue. Worse yet, in an era where dismemberments earn a work a PG rating, kudos and awards whereas glimpses of a nipple earn it an NC-17 rating and snide sniggers, my saga contains as much sex as it does war – and though it’s not romance, love is a powerful engine in it."
