Kristin, I just read about your books on today's blog that also showcased a link to a contest of mine. they sound so good that I'm going to order them for my Kindle, the first fiction I've felt compelled to read in quite a while, actually. (Outback Stars was the other, but alas, not on Kindle) Hearing that you have cover input, and unable to fathom such a luxury, I am experiencing deep cover envy and mourn the reality surrounding my own covers, in particular the one for Sureblood coming out this August. Can I use one of yours instead? :) :)

@Kristin Well I'm glad you had cover input and frankly it showed. I thought the first cover was kind of meh but mainly because it didn't seem as though the models were into their roles. The one for DR seems more kinetic.

I like the cover to this one a lot, too. My wonderful editor Anne Sowards gave me a chance to suggest a couple of things while she was picking the scene to be illustrated—this is unusual! This also gave me the chance to do a slight rewrite on the scene in question so it better matches the cover. (It's their coats. See, I am practical before fashionable, and I've been in a few driving snowstorms ... but I do see now that Iain and Linnea in puffy parkas wouldn't have worked quite as well!)

Frances, you've zeroed in on something that has been a major element in every novel I've written. Even though I'm a science fiction writer first and foremost, a developing relationship between two interesting, strong-willed people can add a great deal to the mix.

@SciFiGuy I liked the cover for DR a lot. Especially in THE COLD MINDS, the story goes places I didn't expect and they are quite memorable.

Great to know about Kristin. She's using a premise that is a favorite of mine - the hero and heroine working together to overcome great odds, and the course of their growth.

I saw the cover for The Darkest Reaches and the blurb a few days ago and thought that it looked and sounded good - and of course I thought of the Galaxy Express and voila here it is :) I'll be back!
