Parallel Universe 2010 Starts Next Week!

Next week, from July 20-31,The Galaxy Express will host Parallel Universe, a science fiction romance online event that will coincide with the Romance Writers of America’s 30th Annual National Conference (July 28-31 in Orlando, FL). It will be the virtual SFR gathering for those unable to attend the conference. (But if you’re there and bring us word of juicy SFR news, we’ll give you a virtual group hug!).

Parallel Universe will feature a series of guest posts from authors and bloggers on a variety of scintillating science fiction romance topics. Opportunity willing, I’ll also bring you news directly from the conference courtesy of my correspondents—skiffy rommers who will be smack dab in the thick of things.

If you’re attending the RWA conference, the hotspot for SFR fans is The Gathering, hosted by the Fantasy, Futuristic, & Paranormal Chapter of RWA. Here’s more information courtesy of the FF&P site:

Join us for the 2010 PRISM Awards and SteamPunk Costume Ball!

Until then, for those of you who will be at the RWA conference, what are your plans? Which panels will you be attending? What kind of steampunk costume will you wear to the ball?

Joyfully yours,

Heather

I saw a lot of people at ApolloCon wearing just steampunk hats and couldn't resist two of them. Hoping I'll be brave enough to strut them at ArmadilloCon (I'm from Wyoming. An index finger wave is friendly, two fingers is excited. lol)

Hmmm British Industrial Revolution attire? That means 18th and 19th century costumes... men in very tight trousers and breeches (often with "falls" instead of flies) and padded shoulders and high pointed shirt collars and cravats and lace!!!

I would have loved to attend the awards and ball and meet some of the FF&P members. It's too bad every night at RWA is packed with so many different things to do!

@Rowena Mmmm...you said tight trousers.

Realizing just now that I totally forgot to mention in the post that I asked the contributors to write a piece on the topic of diversity as it relates to science fiction romance.

Better late than never, eh?

And here I thought you were just keeping an air of mystery about the whole affair! ;-D

Can't wait for tomorrow!

I created a slightly specious Listmania on Amazon to promote the event across the sfr, fantasy, futuristic, paranormal romance reading communities. Some helpful votes would be good.

Once this event is over and Heather has had her traffic, the posts ought to be recycled as discussions on the Amazon SFR community.

Wow, Rowena! Much obliged.
